Clay is an extremely versatile medium. Artists use many techniques to express their ideas using clay, and the Allan Chasanoff Ceramic Collection features objects that represent a vast array of technical processes and materials. The glossary lists a number of terms that describe the materials as well as the building and firing techniques used by artists represented in the collection. Additionally, visitors may search within the website database for objects in the collection that were made using certain materials or processes.

The Mint Museum of Craft + Design has compiled artist demonstrations of coil building, press molding, slab building, and wheel throwing techniques which can be viewed here. Each process is broken down into video segments which follow the development of various objects. The finished products, along with other physical examples of significant points along each process, are on view in the Education Resource Center at the Mint Museum of Craft + Design.
